Android AirDrop Alternative – NearBy may support other devices

Android’s AirDrop Alternative – NearBy may support other devices like Mac, Windows, and Chromebooks.

Airdrop Alternative by Android – Nearby Share may be coming to not just Android but other devices too.
As reported by 9to5Google, this feature could be coming to Mac, Windows, and Chromebook. This would be an awesome feature by Google.

What does it do?

It works similarly to Apple’s Airdrop. If you are not much aware of the Airdrop, this is a feature that allows you to share and receive photos, documents, and more with other Apple devices that are nearby.
These devices you’re sending to is nearby and within Bluetooth and Wi-Fi range.
Currently, Android already has this facility but it is only limited to transfer data between Android Devices only.

These features seem to be enabled in the settings of ChromeOS canary builds. Similar to most experimental features of Chrome, it can be only enabled with a flag in chrome://flags. As noted by Dinsan of the Chrome Story, it shows up in settings of Chrome OS.

This Android version of AirDrop was recently renamed to “Fast Share“.
